BUIES CREEK — D’Maurian Williams scored 15 points and Gardner-Webb defeated Campbell, 57-45, in Big South Conference men’s basketball Wednesday night at Gore Arena.

Lance Terry added 14 and Jordan Sears had 10 for the Bulldogs (14-10, 8-3), who extended their winning streak to five games.

Jordan Whitfield was the lone Camel in double figures with 12 points.

Four days after producing a season-high 64 percent shooting day in an 80-71 win at USC Upstate, Campbell (13-9, 6-5) was held to a season-low scoring total and just 28 percent shooting by GWU, which entered the game 17th in the nation in defensive field goal percentage.

Campbell took a 38-36 lead on Cedric Henderson, Jr.’s layup with 14:14 to play. Gardner-Webb responded with a 10-2 run and never trailed again. Jesus Carralero’s lay-in with 6:01 remaining cut the Bulldog lead to 47-42, but the Camels missed their final seven attempts from the field.

Gardner-Webb shot 42 percent (19-45) on the night, made 4-of-17 threes and 15-of-22 from the line. Campbell hit 9-of-27 triples, but just 2-of-10 in the second half, and 6-of-9 from the line for the game.

GWU took a 28-25 lead at the break behind Williams’ nine points. Despite the fact that three of CU’s top four scorers — Carralero, Ricky Clemons and Henderson — did not score in the opening half, the Camels trailed by just three after making 7-of-17 beyond the arc.

The Camels return to action Saturday at High Point at 6 p.m.
