Cardinal Gibbons topped host South Johnston 10-7 in a nonconference varsity baseball game on Saturday, dropping the Trojans to 4-3.
Josh Schindler was 3-for-4 for South with a double. Grant Millay had a home run and three RBIs for the Trojans. Drew Moore went 2-for-3.
Aubrey Pollard went three and two-thirds innings, yielding four earned runs. Moore took the loss. He went two and two-thirds innings and allowed three earned runs.
“We played well on both sides of the ball with some tough, unlucky breaks,” said South coach Aaron Parnell. “They had a couple of big hits late in the game. We competed well enough to win the game. Unlucky.”
South is scheduled to open Greater Neuse 3-A Conference play at home against Clayton on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
