Cape Fear Christian Academy’s varsity girls soccer team took a 3-0 nonconference win over visiting Liberty Christian on Monday as Lexi Crumley scored all three goals. It was the first victory of the season for the Eagles.
The game was stopped in the 51st minute due to lightning.
Meredith Taylor assisted on the third goal. Taylor was filling in for Ella John Dupree as center midfielder. Dupree hurt a foot in gym class on Monday.’
“Her athleticism really made a difference,” CFCA coach Michael Breslin said of Taylor.
Crumley’s goals came in the 18th, 23rd and 24th minutes.
Aubrey Jackson was in goal for the shutout.
“They have grown up so much during the course of this season,” Breslin said of his club. “It’s like watching an entirely different team. They are really starting to play well as a unit.”
Softball rallies
CFCA trailed 7-4 after four innings in its nonconference varsity softball game at Riverside Christian on Monday but the Eagles came back for an 11-10 win.
CFCA was down 9-8 going to the top of the seventh when Aubree Bass led off with a walk. Clair Parker was hit by a pitch with one out. With two down, Jada Horne doubled to bring in two runs for a 10-9 lead. Kristen Bass followed with a hit and Paige Jeffries got an RBI double.
Jada Horne and Kristen Bass each had three hits in the win. Jeffries had two hits.
Parker pitched the last three and two-thirds innings for the win.
Village wins baseball
CFCA was limited to three baserunners in a 12-0 Sandhills Athletic Conference baseball loss at Village Christian on Monday.
Reid Miller led off the second with a single to center. River Ennis started the third with a walk. Jackson Bolton opened the fourth with a walk.
Wesley Jackson pitched three innings for the Eagles and Zeke Brock pitched the fourth.
Village had won 16-0 at CFCA on March 12.
CFCA’s SAC home game with Trinity Christian has been postponed from Tuesday to Thursday at 4 p.m.
