Gardner-Webb recognized Glenna McLamb’s softball pitching ability and potential at a travel tournament before her junior year at Cape Fear Christian Academy.

The Bulldogs didn’t waste any time in inviting her to join the Big South Conference program based in Boiling Springs, outside of Shelby. There was a phone call and a full scholarship offer as she returned home.

McLamb officially signed with G-W on Thursday, thanking the gathering at a signing ceremony in the CFCA gym.

McLamb began her high school career at Midway before transferring to CFCA as a sophomore.

“She was a blessing,” said former Eagles softball coach Sterling Holmes, who had lost two senior pitchers from a state championship team in 2022.

Greg Kennedy, who coached the Eagles in 2024, noted that McLamb averaged 2.35 strikeouts per inning as a junior.

“If you came up against her, you were striking out,” Kennedy said.

McLamb had a 1.33 earned run average last season. She also produced elite numbers at the plate with a .469 batting average, .776 slugging percentage, three home runs and 15 RBIs..

Her dad, Tommy, will coach the Eagles this spring and Kennedy will assist. Kennedy’s daughter, Kristina, a junior, recently committed to George Mason..

Her parents, Tommy and Michelle, decorated for the occasion with assistance from school counselor Ashlyn Thompson and CFCA coach Brandon Shwaikeh

Family members on hand Thursday included her paternal grandparents, Glenn and Charlotte McLamb; her brother, Dalton; her twin brother, Camden; her aunt, Ashley Jones and maternal grandmother, Annie Johnson.

Also attending were her coaches for the Fuquay Phenoms, Brent Howard, Jason Faucett and Michael McLeod as well as her crossfit trainer, B.G. Howell. Her pitching coach is Darren Dubsky, who was in Nebraska.

Mclamb’s athletic contributions at CFCA have not been limited to softball. She took up tennis as a senior.

“She made remarkable progress in a short period of time, because of he athleticism,” said Eagles girls tennis coach Page Jackson. “If she had come out a few weeks earlier, she would have been in our top six.”

McLamb is also a starter in girls basketball and one of the team’s top scorers.

A slide show was presented at the signing ceremony. Pizza and cupcakes were served.

The Class of 2025 and the CFCA softball team came to the signing along with selected school staff.
