A signing ceremony was held Thursday for Triton’s Gracie Byrd as she signed to play softball at Methodist.
Byrd hit .444 with six doubles, one triple and 26 RBIs as a junior. She scored 27 runs for a 16-7 team that shared the All-American Conference regular-season championship and went to the second round of the NCHSAA 3-A playoffs.
“She has a great work ethic and is always looking to get better,” said Hawks softball coach Mark Whitman. “She has been our shortstop since her freshman year.
“She will most likely play outfield at Methodist. She should step right in and help out their program.”
The Monarchs, coached by Alexis Wickham Allaman, are coming off a 23-21 season that included a 12-6 record in the USA South Conference.
