Greenfield School of Wilson took a nonconference basketball sweep at Cape Fear Christian Academy on Tuesday night.
The Knights won the varsity boys basketball game, 83-65, despite a 31-point effort by Austin Locklear of the Eagles (8-3). Zykia Matthews had 16 points for the CFCA girls in a 42-38 setback and the visitors took the junior varsity boys game, 71-39.
Collin Guilford and Creighton Lebo scored 16 points each for Greenfield varsity boys, who improved to 10-2.
The Knights pulled away from a tie at 6 to lead 23-14 at the end of the first quarter. The visitors were ahead 48-31 at the half.
“We’ve got to do a better job coming out stronger,” said CFCA coach Kalen Eddings. “We came out slow and they jumped out on us and we played catch up the whole game.
“We felt pretty confident about what they’d do offensively, but we had a few mental lapses that led to big buckets early in the game. Proud of the way the guys kept fighting until the finish. Greenfield is a great team and the matchups they presented with four point guards on the floor was tough to overcome.”
Wake Forest signee Dji Bailey had 14 points for Greenfield. Justin Holland had 13 points. Trey Pittman scored nine. Hampton Evans tallied eight and Jordan Lynch had seven points.
Paul Tako had 14 points, a team-high eight rebounds, three steals and three blocked shots for CFCA. Jeremyah McWilliams and Mel Carter had seven points each. Milo Prodanovic scored six points. Zeke Brock had two assists.
The CFCA girls (5-4) got nine points from eighth-grader Aubree Bass and five from eighth-grader Ella John Dupree. Kristen Bass scored four points. Talisha McNeil and Meredith Taylor added two points each.
Deshaun Woods led the junior varsity Eagles (2-1) with 16 points. David Okropiridze had 11 points. Zeke Brock had eight points. Reid Miller tallied three points and Trevor McLamb scored one.
CFCA starts Sandhills Athletic Conference play at home on Friday against Northwood Temple.
