Dunn took a sweep over visiting Overhills in middle school basketball on Thursday.

Overhills looked to hand Dunn’s girls their third straight loss, but a Chyna Massey put back at the buzzer gave the Greenwaves an 18-16 win.

JaNiah Smith had 13 points to pace the Greenwaves (4-2).

Massey and Stephanie Davis had two points apiece and Evie Eller had one point.

Eva McRae led the Panthers with six points, Kori Coffie had five points, Kalah Fleming had three points and Sadiya Davis had two points.

After outscoring Overhills 5-2 in the first quarter and 8-4 in the second, Dunn led 13-6 at halftime.

Overhills rallied with a 6-1 run through the third quarter and opened the fourth with McRae scoring to tie the game at 14.

With the score tied 16-16 late in the fourth, both teams had multiple opportunities but couldn’t make the go-ahead score. But with just enough time for one more Dunn possession in regulation, Smith took a shot that bounced off of the rim, but Massey rebounded and put another shot up before the buzzer. The ball sat on the rim for seemingly ages before falling through the net to give the Greenwaves the win.

Dunn’s boys stayed unbeaten on the season by winning a 41-15 rout against Overhills.

Ro’mello Pegues had 11 points and Nick Roberson had nine points to lead the Greenwaves (6-0).

Qua’shaun Williams had six points. Diontae Williams had three points. Camrien McNeil, Chandler Miles, Joshua Cameron, Ahmad Morris and Avery Ellington had two points apiece.

Corshorn Stewart had five points, Rondell Neal had four points, Derion Newborn had three points, Ariel Lopez had two points and Jeremiah Johnson had one point to lead the Panthers.

Dunn opened the game with 13 unanswered points and led by double digits the rest of the way, outscoring Overhills 13-3 in the first quarter, 8-7 in the second, 16-2 in the third and 4-3 in the fourth.

Both schools’ next games are at home against Western Harnett. Overhills hosts the rival Cardinals on Wednesday. Dunn hosts Western on Thursday.
