Triton took a 54-50 varsity boys basketball win over visiting Harnett Central in a make-up game on Saturday night.

The Hawks improved to 3-3 overall and 3-1 in the Tri-County Six 3-A Conference going into a game at Union Pines on Monday at 6 p.m.

Campbell baseball signee Dalen Thompson led Triton on Saturday night with 21 points on eight of 13 field goal shooting. Thompson hit two of three from beyond the arc and three of four at the line. He also had six rebounds, three assists and a steal.

The Hawks were coming off a 63-36 home win over Lee County on Friday night.

“We were fortunate,” said Triton coach T.J. Morrison. “We played much different than Friday. We played really well Friday. It was a stark contrast Saturday.”

Central (0-5, 0-3) made it tough for the Hawks.

“Harnett Central played good defense and we didn’t take great shots,” Morrison said. “We fouled entirely too much and gave up too many offensive rebounds. I think 14 of their points came from the line.”

Triton led 12-8 after eight minutes and was on top, 25-18, at halftime. The Trojans trailed, 37-33, going into the fourth quarter.

Luke West had nine points for the Hawks and Jalen Evans added seven. Triton got five points each from Jamari Amerson and Nate McKoy. Will Heard had four points and Brandon Robinson tallied three.

Hayden Pope and McKoy each had seven rebounds for the Hawks. Evans had six assists and Amerson had four steals.

Seven McClain led the Trojans with 15 points and Chris Mills scored 12. Rounding out the scoring for the visitors were Cohen Walker (8), Khalil Cameron (7), Quez Jones (5), Xavier Bailey (2) and Xavier Harris (1).

Walker had eight rebounds and Mills grabbed six. Cameron had three assists.
