Hawk hoops this week: boys streak stopped, Smith honored for 1,000th point

A 6-game winning streak for the Triton varsity boys basketball team was stopped with a 68-65 All American Conference loss at Westover on Friday night.

It was the third game of the week for the Hawks, who had a 72-60 AAC win at home over Terry Sanford on Tuesday night and a 72-34 nonconference triumph over visiting Smithfield-Selma on Thursday night.

Triton recognized senior Ja’Niah Smith on Tuesday night for scoring her 1,000th career point the previous week at South Johnston.

Hawk Boys

Ro’melo Pegues had 18 points on Thursday night in the second win over the Spartans and Jamaury Taylor added 15.

B.J. Surles had eight points, six assists and four steals.

The Hawks are 7-2 overall and 3-1 in league play.

Triton opened the season with a 73-66 win at SSS on November 15.

Lady Hawks

Neveah Hawley had 24 points on Thursday night in a 56-27 win over SSS.

Nashara McNeil-Watlington had 13 points.

Smith scored 11 and had 11 steals.
