Triton’s varsity volleyball team improved its record in All American 3-A/4-A Conference play to 4-0 with a 3-0 win over visiting Harnett County rival Western Harnett by scores of 25-17, 25-18 and 25-8 on Thursday night.

“We’ve just built off of what we started with the non-conference games,” said Triton coach Sarah Haney. “We saw what we were doing wrong, we switched some things up, we put some people in different places. We’ve had Mary Charlotte (Pope) step up and play middle for us and Virginia (Pope) back in there playing for us. Yesterday she was sick, and Mary Charlotte had to play all the way around in the middle and that’s very, very new for her. So, we’ve really stepped it up. It’s been a big change, but it’s been a change that’s worked.”

Junior Carleigh Hemby had 10 kills and one ace on 11 service points. Freshman Sydney Bradham had 19 assists and nine digs to lead the Hawks (6-4, 4-0 AAC).

“No matter where the set is, (Hemby)’s going to make it look good,” Haney said. “Even if it’s not a great pass, she’s going to put it down somewhere.”

Olivia Godwin had five kills, one assists, nine digs and two aces on 12 service points. Chyna Massey had four kills, one block and one dig. Virginia Pope had three kills and two digs. Bradham had two kills and two aces on four service points. Baylee Reagan had one kill, two assists, four digs and five aces on nine service points. Camryn Conway had one assist and one dig. Ava Blackman had eight digs. Emma Stanley had three digs and two aces on 11 service points. Hemby had three digs. Mary Charlotte Pope had one dig and held serve for four points.

Senior Gracie Olive had three kills, eight digs and three aces on seven service points and junior Grace Andersen had one kill, nine assists, 12 digs and two aces on five service points to lead the Eagles (1-7, 0-4).

Sydney Jackson had two kills, one block and two digs and held serve for one point. Lily Campbell had two kills, two digs and one ace on three service points. Cassidy Henderson had two kills. Shay McCants had one kill and one block. Madison Smith had one assist, five digs and one ace on four service points.

With the score tied 14-14 in the first set, a Godwin kill, assisted by Bradham, started Triton on an 11-3 run to end the set, capped by a Hemby kill, assisted by Bradham.

Triton opened the second set on a 15-3 run before Western rallied with a 10-2 run to cut the lead to four. But Triton outscored Western 8-5 down the stretch to take the set.

The score was tied 2-2 in the third set when Triton went on a 23-6 run to end the match, capped by a Godwin kill, assisted by Bradham.

Triton also won the junior varsity match 2-1.

Western is at home against non-conference opponent Southern Lee (3-6) on Monday. Triton travels to conference opponent Pine Forest (5-6, 4-0) and Western Harnett is at conference opponent E.E. Smith (0-7, 0-4) on Tuesday.
