Hawk wrestlers Cameron, Carvin claim league championships

The Triton wrestling team was third on Saturday in the Tri-County Six 3-A Conference tournament at Western Harnett.

The Hawks had two individual champions as Tyre Cameron won at 220 pounds and Michael Carvin was first at 285 pounds.

Matthew Shorb of Triton was second at 113 pounds. Third-place finishers for the Hawks included Nicholas Williams at 145, Antoine Mosley at 152 and Romello Cowan at 170.

Malachi Nettles of Triton was fourth in the 160 class.

The Hawks were also third in the conference regular-season standings. Triton was 12-12 as a team under first-year coach David Weathersby.

The regionals are scheduled for Feb. 8-9 at Cleveland.
