Hawks celebrate on Senior Night with 3-0 win over Central

Sophomore Elias Lopez scored a goal in each half as Triton took a 3-0 All American Conference varsity boys soccer win over Harnett Central on Senior Night for the Hawks on Wednesday.

Upperclassmen John West, Jon Herrin, Omar Hernandez and Brock Parker were recognized following the match.

“Scrappy game between two very even teams,” said Triton coach Brian Foster. “They were all over us the first 10 minutes, but we kept the ball out of the goal.”

Braxton Davis had 10 saves for the Hawks, who improved tp 12-7-2 overall and 8-5-1 in league play.

Triton’s first goal came as Lopez settled a rebound off the crossbar of the goal and scored with a blast.

Lopez converted a free kick from 28 yards in the final minutes and Hernandez scored off a loose ball in the closing seconds.

Central (14-4, 11-3) had hosted a pair of wins over Triton this season, 3-1 on August 17, and, 1-0 in overtime, on September 26.

The teams play in the league tournament quarterfinals at Central on Monday. The third-seeded Hawks meet Westover at 5 p.m. and the second-seeded Trojans take on Pine Forest at 7 p.m.

Top-seeded Terry Sanford hosts the other half of the bracket Monday with fourth-seeded Overhills playing fifth-seeded Western Harnett at 5 p.m. and the Bulldogs facing E.E. Smith at 7 p.m.
