The Triton varsity boys basketball team started slowly against Cary in scrimmages at Apex Friendship on Saturday.

The Hawks fell behind the Imps 25-0 as Cary connected with a barrage of 3-pointers. Triton closed the gap to 57-41 by the end of the matchup.

The Hawks defeated Apex 60-47 in their second game after leading by as many as 21.

Triton won its third game, 52-50, over Jordan after trailing by nine points late in the second half. Travion Sanders hit the deciding free throws with 16 seconds remaining.

The Hawks were limited in personnel as coach T.J. Morrison had six players, including one post player and one freshman.

“Just a good group of kids,” Morrison said. “They kept fighting, kept trying. Their effort overcame what we might have been lacking in size and depth. I was really proud of them.”

The Hawks are scheduled to scrimmage at South Granville on June 29.
