Triton junior Ladrabious Eason scored the game-winning basket and claimed the ensuing defensive rebound with time running out as the Hawks’ varsity boys basketball team took third place in the South Johnston Invitational on Saturday.

Triton (5-5) got 18 points from Josiah Lett on seven of nine field goal shooting. Keionta Burnett made four of seven from the floor in scoring 14 points.

The Hawks made 23 of 46 shots, 50 percent.

Myshon Smith had eight points for Triton. Eason and Jaden Geddie added seven points each. Rounding out the scoring for the Hawks were Dalen Thompson (5), Jamari Amerson (4) and Jalen Evans (2).

Lett had nine rebounds. Smith had seven assists and Burnett had five. Lett blocked six shots by the Bulldogs (6-3).

“It was tough playing without Travion,” said Triton coach T.J. Morrison as senior Travion Sanders, who is averaging 7.7 points and 4.0 rebounds for the Hawks, sat out with a sore knee incurred in a 62-51 loss to C.B. Aycock on Friday.

“We made some progress in the two games,” Morrison said. “Proud of the effort. Princeton is good and athletic, especially for 1-A.”

Triton hosts Middle Creek (11-2) on Friday night.
