Triton trailed visiting Lee County for much of the way in its Tri-County Six 3-A Conference varsity boys soccer opener on Monday night after the Yellow Jackets scored a first-half goal.

“It could have easily been 2-0 but Christian Delcid made a great save on a short corner with eight minutes to go,” said Hawks coach Brian Foster. “Instead, my boys pushed and believed.”

The determined effort paid off in the final minute of regulation as Kevin Paz netted a header off a throw-in by Julian Serrano.

The Hawks took advantage of a hand ball in the box in overtime by the visitors that resulted in the game-winning goal on a penalty kick by Benny Villalvazo.

Delcid finished with eight saves in the 2-1 victory as Triton improved to 3-4-2 overall going into a match at Southern Lee on Wednesday.
