Triton’s varsity softball team ended the regular season on Saturday by winning a 14-3 rout at Union Pines to secure second place in the Tri-County Six 3-A Conference and a first-round bye in the conference tournament.
Sophomore Gracyn Slaughter pitched the complete game win for the Hawks (12-5, 7-3 TCSC), giving up one earned run on five hits and one walk, with eight strikeouts.
Slaughter and fellow sophomore Kaila Cooney were red hot at the plate to lead Triton. Cooney had four hits, including two doubles, four RBIs and four runs scored and Slaughter had three hits, including a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored.
Tatiana Muniz had two hits and three runs scored. Reagan Bradham had one hit, three RBIs and one run scored. Alexis Howard had a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored. Brittany Ireland had one hit and one run scored. Mackenzie Reid and Mary Kate Lucas had one hit apiece. Ella Layn had one RBI and one run scored.
Senior Megan Foster had two hits and two runs scored and junior Kaley Evans had two hits and one run scored to lead the Vikings (11-8, 5-5).
Triton led the entire game, scoring three runs apiece in the first and seventh innings, one run apiece in the third and sixth innings, two runs in the fourth and four runs in the fifth. Union Pines scored two runs in the second inning and one in the fourth.
Hawks fall in baseball
Triton’s baseball team fell 6-1 at Union Pines.
Colton Neighbors had two hits, including a double, and one RBI. Greg Godwin had two hits and one run scored. Christian Tyndall and Austin Riewestahl had one hit apiece for the Hawks (11-7, 6-3).
The Vikings (12-10, 5-5) scored two runs apiece in the first, fifth and sixth innings. Triton’s lone run came in the seventh.
Triton’s baseball team wraps up the regular season on Monday at 7 p.m. at rival Harnett Central on the Trojans’ Senior Night, a game postponed from Friday because of storms in the area. The Hawks need a win to claim a share of the conference championship alongside Southern Lee (14-4, 7-3), which clinched a share of the title with a 4-3 win in eight innings against visiting rival Lee County on Saturday.
