Western Harnett held off Triton for a 58-55 varsity boys basketball win on Friday night to give the host Eagles a split after a 49-30 loss in the girls game.

Zoie Starling had 17 points as the Lady Hawks improved to 11-8 overall and 6-2 in the Tri-County Six 3-A Conference. Kaila Cooney added 15 points, eight rebounds and four assists.

Freshman Abby Hood had eight points and nine rebounds for the Triton girls. Tristan Ennis had six points and eight rebounds. Anastasia McDonald finished with three points and four assists.

Western’s boys had a 54-43 lead going into the fourth quarter, moving to 5-16 for the season and 3-5 in the league as the Hawks missed a potential tying 3-pointer in the final stages.

The Eagles had outscored the visitors 21-16 in the second quarter and 22-13 in the third.

Travion Sanders led Triton with 14 points, three assists and five steals. Josiah Lett had nine points and 11 rebounds. Myshon Smith had nine points, three assists and six steals.

Ladrabious Eason had six points for the Hawks (9-12, 2-6). Keionta Burnett, Leyton Kelly and Jaden Geddie scored five each. Luke West had two points.

“Can’t give up 20-plus points in a quarter and deserve to win,” said Triton coach T.J. Morrison. “I loved that we had a chance to win. We had five or six possessions where we could have tied the game or taken the lead.

“We’ve got to keep working. The season’s not over. … Hopefully, we’ll work hard in practice Monday and deserve to win Tuesday.”

The Hawks visit Union Pines on Tuesday night.
