HC boys top Cleveland, 50-47

Harnett Central’s varsity boys basketball team took a 50-47 nonconference win at Cleveland on Wednesday night as Anthony Tomlinson scored 23 points.

Tomlinson hit a pair of free throws for the final margin.

The Trojans improved to 6-5 as Tre Williams and Justin Perkins added 10 points each.

Sophomore Trey Fields had 14 points for the Rams (10-4), who had taken a 68-61 win at Central on Dec. 2.

Central outscored their hosts 13-5 in the third quarter after trailing 25-20 at the half.

Perkins had nine rebounds in the win and Croix Shipman grabbed eight. Richard Edwards had five assists. Williams was credited with four steals and three assists.

Cleveland took a 49-45 win in the varsity girls game, reversing a 57-34 outcome in favor of the Lady Trojans at HC on Dec. 2.

The Central teams start Tri-County 3-A Conference play at home against Union Pines on Friday night.
