Harnett Central’s girls tennis team moved to 2-0 with a 9-0 win over visiting South Johnston on Tuesday.
In the No. 1 singles, Jordan Gilchrist defeated Nikki Lee, 8-1. In the No. 2 singles, Emme Ann Thompson got past Sarah Brewer, 8-1.
Cameron Mewborn won, 8-2, over Jarah Newton at No. 3.
The No. 4 singles went to Malaya McFadyen, 8-3, over Kayla Batten. At no. 5, Brittany Mills topped Isury Hernandez, 8-1.
Anna Vreeling captured the No. 6 singles, 8-4, against Olivia Tresidder.
In doubles, Mewborn and McFadyen teamed to take the No. 1 singles, 8-1, over Lee and Batten.
Gilchrist and Vreeling defeated Brewer and Newton, 8-2, at No. 2. Thompson and Mills won, 8-0, over Hernandez and Raylee Gardner at No. 3.
HC wins opener
The Harnett Central girls tennis team opened the 2019 season by dominating visiting Rosewood, 6-0, on Monday.
Central swept the singles matches in its first outing under coach Jay James.
Jordan Williams won 8-1 at No. 1 and Emme Ann Thompson took an 8-2 win at No. 2. The No. 3 singles went to Cameron Mewborn by an 8-1 margin.
Malaya McFayden prevailed 8-2 at No. 4. Brittany Mills captured the No. 5 match, 8-3. Anna Vreeling took an 8-0 victory at No. 6.
