HC leads area teams in Tri-County Six track and field

Harnett Central’s girls were second and its boys team was third in the team standings as the Tri-County Six 3-A Conference held its track and field championships at Union Pines on Wednesday.

The host Vikings won the girls title with 239 points. Central had 123 points and Western Harnett was third with 64. Rounding out the girls totals were Southern Lee (46), Lee County (39) and Triton (36).

Southern Lee captured the boys championship with 174 points and Union Pines was second at 146. Central’s boys had 89.5 points and were followed by Western Harnett (55), Triton (49.5) and Lee (38).

Area schools produced several winners of multiple events.

N.C. State signee Laderique McNeill of Harnett Central won the boys 800-meter (2:05.53), the 1,600 (4:51.07) and the 3,200 (9:40.46).

Maliah Banks of the Central girls won the 100 (12.57), the 200 (26.05) and the long jumo (17-5.75).

Charlotte signee Asher Prince of Western won the boys discus (156-11) and the shot put (51-6).

Other firsts from the area were provided by Western’s girls 4×100 relay (51.22), Central’s Gimelly Bryant in the girls high jump (5-0) and Western’s Taija Pruitt in the girls triple jump (33-9.75).

Triton’s Christion Green was second in the boys long jump (20-10).
