HC softball ends Southern Nash’s 16-game winning streak

Harnett Central defeated host Southern Nash 6-1 in the second round of the NCHSAA 3-A softball playoffs on Friday night.

The Firebirds had a 16-game winning streak halted as they finished the season at 22-5.

Fallon Wimberly pitched a complete game two-hitter, helping her own cause as she went 4-for-5 at the plate with two runs and two RBIs.

Alexis Carroll went 2-for-5 with an RBI. Also getting hits for Central were Lyndsey Brewer, Kylee Frailey, Anna Ausley and Ansley Lee.

The Trojans (17-8) scored twice in the top of the second for a 2-1 lead and were on top the rest of the way.

Central visits Western Alamance (22-3) in the third round on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
