HC splits on diamond with S. Lee

Harnett Central’s varsity softball team improved to 3-0 in the Tri-County Six 3-A Conference standings with a 14-1 win in six innings at Southern Lee on Friday night.

In baseball, the Cavaliers also moved to 3-0 with a 3-2 win over visiting Central in eight innings.

HC slipped to 3-4 overall and 2-1 in the Tri-County although N.C. State signee Baker Nelson had 15 strikeouts in six and two-thirds innings.

Central had a 2-0 lead through five innings but the hosts managed lone runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings.

Johnny Grizzard, Justin Perkins (RBI) and Jackson Yarbrough had hits for HC. Jared Raynor and Austin Swan scored runs.

The Cavaliers won Friday’s varsity girls soccer match 1-0, dropping the Trojans to 2-3 overall and 0-3 in the conference.

The Trojans host Panther Creek in varsity softball on Monday at 6:30 p.m.

Southern Lee visits Central in league play on Tuesday.
