HC splits with Union Pines

Harnett Central split on the diamond in Tri-County Six 3-A Conference varsity games with Union Pines on Friday night.

The Trojans used 10 runs in the bottom of the second on the way to a 14-4 softball win in five innings. The outcome put the Trojans at 11-8 overall and 8-0 in the conference.

In baseball, the Vikings won 4-3 at Central, scoring the tying and go-ahead runs in the sixth inning.

Central fell to 5-11 overall and 3-5 in the league going into a home game Tuesday night with Triton.

Jackson Yarbrough and Baker Nelson each went 2-for-3 for the Trojans on Friday night. Matthew Bailey, Hunter McLamb and Jackson Jones also collected hits.

Paul Gervase pitched a complete game in the loss, allowing five hits and striking out six.
