Harnett Central got 23 points from Anthony Tomlinson in a 67-55 nonconference varsity boys basketball win at West Johnston on Wednesday night.

Tomlinson made eight of 12 from the floor but the rest of the Trojans made just 16 of 43 attempts, 37.2 percent. Central was four for 20 from beyond the arc.

“We didn’t shoot particularly well,” said Trojans coach Will Gage. “It’s good to win when you don’t shoot well, but that’s an area we’re going to have to improve on.”

The visitors were better on free throws, dropping 15 of 19 as Tomlinson made seven of nine and Justin Perkins dropped six of eight.

Perkins had 12 points and 10 rebounds as Central improved to 4-2. Tre Williams and Croix Shipman had eight points each. Ryder Carroll scored six points and Jackson Jones tallied five. Scoring two points each were Richard Edwards and Deandre Morris. Austin Swan added one point.

Shipman finished with eight rebounds, three assists and three steals. Williams had four assists.

Central had defeated West Johnston, 76-51, at Central on Nov. 25.

Central visits South Johnston (4-0) on Friday night.

“That’s a tough place to play anytime and they’re really good,” Gage said. “We’re going to have to be on our game.”

The Central varsity girls will take a 6-0 record to South after winning, 53-28, at West.

Lyanah Molyneaux had 16 points in the win. Brittany Mills had 11 points, five assists and four steals. Syniah McMiller had nine points, 10 rebounds and blocked seven shots.

Central won the junior varsity boys game, 56-46, in overtime.
