South Johnston’s varsity football team slipped to 6-2 overall and 3-2 in the Quad Counties 3-A Conference with a 43-19 loss at Hunt (7-1, 5-0) on Friday night.
South tied the score at 6 when C.J. Redmond fell on a Trojans fumble in the end zone with 10:35 left in the first half.
The Warriors went ahead to stay at 12-6 with 3:13 left in the half on a scoring toss by Danny Phillips.
Senior quarterback Mike Thomas threw to Davon McKayhan for a score just 14 seconds before halftime as Hunt took an 18-6 lead.
The Trojans closed within 18-13 early in the third quarter on a scoring pass from Paul Olive to Jaydn McNeill.
South’s final tally came on an Olive-McNeill connection with 3:18 remaining.
Olive completed 16 of 29 passes for 188 yards with two touchdowns and one interception.
The Trojans host East Wake (3-5, 2-3) on Friday at 7 p.m.
