Individual honors released for Johnston County Easter Invitational

Andrew Smith of Bunn was named MVP of the Johnston County Easter Invitational after hitting a 3-run homer in the top of the seventh inning for a 7-5 win over Wake Forest in the championship game at South Johnston on Tuesday night. The honor is presented in memory of former Smithfield American Legion coach John Stott.

The tournament’s Andy Pleasant Award for most hits went to Bunn junior Jackson Anderson. Kyle Wilson, a junior for Wake Forest, won the Pat Smith Defensive Award.

Earning all-tournament recognition from area teams were Bradley Wilson and Andrew Kelly of Western Harnett, Jackson Raynor of South Johnston and Colton Neighbors of Triton.

Bunn placed Davie Morgan, Dylan Timberlake, Malakai Morrow, Trent Simmons and Jaylen Perry on the all-tournament team.

Wake Forest was represented by Cuyler O’Neill, Isaac Williams, Grayson Joyner and Kahlil Watson.

All-tournament from Clayton were Austin Cagle, Clay Clinard and Hayden Myrick.

Cameron Verrier made the honor unti from Cleveland and Jaylen Lee was selected from Smithfield-Selma.
