The Cape Fear Christian Academy junior varsity boys basketball team pulled away from visiting Fuquay-Varina for a 59-38 win on Thursday night to finish a 3-0 evening for Eagle teams.

In Southeastern Middle School Conference matchups with Sandhills Classical Christian of Southern Pines, CFCA took a 33-16 victory in the girls game and the Eagle boys prevailed, 63-14.

The JV game was scheduled this week after a matchup in a jamboree at Berean Baptist in Fayetteville on Saturday was canceled.

The CFCA JV improved to 3-0 by switching from a zone to man-to-man defense in the second half and using an effective press break to expand on a 30-25 lead at intermission.

“Proud of the guys,” said Eagles JV coach Matthew Beasley. “It was a team effort propelled by our defense.”

Caden Scarborough had 17 points, five rebounds, four steals and two assists. Justin Chestnut’s double-double included 12 points and 10 rebounds. Eighth-grader Lathan Wilborn had 16 points, six rebounds and blocked four shots.

Jayden Wright contributed seven points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals. Kayden Dunkins added five points, three assists and a block. Eli Burns had two points. Elijah Ellis finished with four rebounds and a steal.

The CFCA JV is scheduled to return to action at Lee Christian on Tuesday.
