Cape Fear Christian Academy hosted Midway for a varsity softball scrimmage on Tuesday afternoon. Each team was able to tune up for their season openers as the weather cooperated for a contest that lasted until the daylight ran out.
CFCA took a 2-1 lead into the seventh inning when the Raiders scored twice for a 3-2 lead. The Eagles tied it up and the matchup went into the ninth inning. Midway scored twice in its last at-bat but CFCA didn’t bat in the bottom of the ninth in the increasing darkness.
In a game, the score would revert to the last complete inning and a tie at 3.
Midway was without several players who were involved in the basketball playoffs. The Raiders open the season on Friday at home against Lakewood.
CFCA was scheduled to play in a tournament at Halifax Academy on Saturday, but that event has been postponed to March 23.
