The Cape Fear Christian Academy varsity girls basketball team overcame a 33-21 deficit entering the fourth quarter to defeat visiting Berean Baptist 42-36 on Tuesday night.
The Lady Eagles extended defensive pressure in their comeback. Kristen Bass scored nine of her 15 points in the final period. Leah Brannon had eight of her 13 points in the last eight minutes. Anslee McLamb had six points with a big 3-pointer that gave CFCA some breathing room.
Meredith Taylor had four points as the Lady Eagles improved to 5-4. Talisha McNeill had two points and Claire Parker scored one.
Varsity boys take control
The CFCA varsity boys scored the first 20 points of the nonconference contest with the Bulldogs and won, 78-35.
E.J. Bethea had 17 points, Marcus Owens tallied 16 and Greg Moneymaker added 15 as the Eagles improved to 9-3.
Riley Adams had eight points. Michael Okoye and Parker Watson scored six points each. Ramiro Arrillaga and Lucas Capalbo had five points apiece.
Middle school splits
The CFCA middle school teams played at The O’Neal School in Southern Pines.
The Eagle girls held the hosts scoreless in the second half and won, 24-9. Rachel Clearman had eight points. Aubree Bass scored seven. Ella John Dupree had four points. Perri Caroline Ennis had two points and Laney Trainer added one.
The CFCA boys were turned back, 47-33, despite 27 points from Zeke Brock. Jakson Cullen scored six.
