Lady Eagles win at Southern Wayne, Hillside tops CFCA boys

The Cape Fear Christian Academy varsity girls basketball team took a 48-22 win over C.B. Aycock on Thursday in a junior varsity tournament at Southern Wayne.

The Lady Eagles were allowed to play in the event because their roster has only two juniors and no seniors.

Leah Brannon led the CFCA girls (8-4) with 21 points. Anslee McLamb had seven points. Kristen Bass scored six. Talisha McNeill added five points. Jada Horne scored three. Claire Parker and Rachel Clearman scored two points each.

“We played well on defense,” said Lady Eagles coach Bobby Lamb.

The CFCA girls return to Southern Wayne today for a 6 p.m. game.

CFCA boys fall

The CFCA varsity boys took an 83-70 loss to Hillside in the Holiday in the Pines Tournament on Thursday night to drop to 12-4 and will seek to regroup for a matchup with host Pinecrest today at 4:30 p.m.
