Lady Raiders dealt first loss

A strong fourth quarter by Clinton led to the first loss of the season for the Midway varsity girls basketball team on Friday night.

The Lady Dark Horses got 37 points from Ashlyn Williams and outscored the Lady Raiders 22-10 in the final period for a 71-67 victory.

Midway (11-1, 1-1 East Central 2-A) had a big second quarter, outscoring the visitors, 33-22, for a 48-45 lead at the half.

J.J. Sankey led the hosts with 24 points and nine steals. Alyssa Wrench and Jenna Pope had 10 points each.

Pope had nine rebounds. Wrench had six rebounds, six steals and four assists.

Alexis Jackson had eight points for Midway, Sydney Williams scored seven and Riley Williams tallied six.

Clinton improved to 11-3 overall and 2-0 in the league. The Lady Dark Horses are coach by Chris Owens, a former Midway athlete.

The Dark Horses took the varsity boys game, 79-61, as Cameron Lawson led the way with 25 points.
