
Linwood Smith is the new athletic director at Cape Fear Christian Academy.
Linwood Smith will have to figure out where to store some trophies in the athletic director’s office at Cape Fear Christian Academy as he takes on the AD responsibilities for the Eagles.
The trophy haul in 2024-25 included state championship hardware in girls golf, girls tennis and softball as well as a state runners-up award in boys golf.
The Eagles claimed their first North Carolina Independent School Athletic Association Wells Fargo Cup for overall athletic performance in the 1-A Class in the last year for retiring AD Al Myatt.
“Inheriting a successful athletic program,” Smith said Wednesday. “Looking forward to keeping that going. Looking forward to running a program and doing good things for our athletes, coaches and teams.”
Smith is a graduate of Campbell and also has a Masters degree.
He has served as a principal in Harnett County schools.
Smith has worked in athletic administration at Western Harnett, Smithfield-Selma and Mattamuskeet.
He has worked with Upward Bound Basketball at Snyder Memorial Baptist Church in Fayetteville.
He has coaching experience in baseball, girls basketball and cross country.
Smith, a native of Rocky Mount, and wife Kim, the principal at Northwest Harnett Elementary School, have four children and four grandchildren.
