Middle school baseball, boys golf take triumphs

Cape Fear Christian Academy hosted Crossroads of Henderson for Mid-Carolina Conference middle school and varsity baseball and girls soccer contests on Tuesday.

The CFCA middle school golf teams ventured to Carolina Lakes for a match with Harnett County schools.

Middle School Baseball

The Eagles finished unbeaten in the regular season in the MCC and will be the top seed for the league tournament April 28-29 after downing visiting Crossroads, 9-1.

River Stancil allowed just two hits over five and two-thirds innings before the 90-minute time limit expired.

Chase Smith, Braxton Young and Carter Glass each had two hits for CFCA.

Brady Reagle accounted for the Colts’ tally with a home run over the fence in right-center.

Eighth-graders Beau Coombs and Garrett Chapman will be recognized Wednesday following a 3:30 p.m. game with Old Mainstream.

Varsity Baseball

The Eagles were topped, 11-7, by the Colts.

The visitors took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first, but CFCA responded with five runs in the bottom of the frame.

The Eagles slipped to 8-7 overall and 2-2 in the MCC. Crossroads (8-3, 4-0 MCC) is currently No. 1 among NCISAA 1-A teams. CFCA is No. 3.

Fisher Stancil had two hits with a double and two RBIs on Tuesday for the Eagles. Mason Gregory had two hits and drove in two runs. Taylor Smith had two hits and scored twice. Eli Burns had two hits with an RBI.

Cooper Davis had two hits and scored a run. Parker McLamb had a hit, an RBI and a run before leaving the game with a fractured wrist on a catch attempt in left field. Conner Parrish had a hit and scored a run.

The Eagles were without leadoff batter and center fielder Tyson Stephens, who broke his thumb Monday.

Middle School Girls Soccer

Bella Rose Giles scored for CFCA in a 3-1 loss.

The Eagles will travel to Lee Christian on April 28 in the first round of the league tournament.

Varsity Girls Soccer

Crossroads solidified its position as the top team in the MCC with a 9-0 win.

The Colts will host CFCA in the first round of the league tournament on May 1.

Middle School Boys Golf

Ben Thompson shot 39 on the front nine at Carolina Lakes to lead the Eagles to first place with a 178 score.

CFCA (5-0) got a 43 from Jon Russell Wise, a 47 from Ezra Smith and a 49 from K.J Weidle.

Harnett Central was second at 198, followed by Highland (2-4) and Coats-Erwin (206).
