Midway baseball downs Goldsboro, 16-6, as Raiders sweep

Midway’s varsity baseball team scored six runs in the sixth inning to close out a 16-6 East Central 2-A Conference win over visiting Goldsboro on Tuesday night.

Sophomore Drew Matthews had two hits and drove in three runs as the Raiders improved to 9-3 overall and 4-1 in league play.

Goldsboro (5-5, 2-3) was beset by six errors.

Austin Peterson had a hit and three RBIs for Midway, which went ahead 5-1 in the bottom of the first.

Colby Pope had a hit for the Raiders. Carson Calcutt, Cameron Calcutt, Henry Happel and Chandler Williford had RBIs.

Carson Calcutt, Sawyer Sutton and Cal Tyndall pitched two innings each for Midway. The trio had eight strikeouts.

Midway is scheduled to host Rosewood in a nonconference game tonight (Wednesday, April 11).

The Raiders took a 13-3 softball win over Goldsboro on Tuesday and topped the Cougars, 2-1, in girls soccer.
