Midway baseball scrimmages Cape Fear, Raiders use five pitchers

by | Feb 16, 2018 | Articles, Midway

Due to the threat of rain Saturday, Midway moved its baseball scrimmage with visiting Cape Fear to Friday. Raiders coach Jason Fussell gave five pitchers some work.

Chandler Williford, Carson Calcutt, Cal Tyndall, Eli Culbreth and Sawyer Sutton all saw mound duty in spring-like conditions.

“Very proud of the effort,” Fussell said. “We’ve got a young team.”

The Raiders have just four seniors among 17 players.

Midway had eight seniors on the 2017 team, which went 16-7 overall and 12-2 in the Four County 2-A/1-A Conference.

The Raiders will play in the East Central 2-A Conference this season. Fussell said East Duplin will have a senior-laden team.

Trevor Hobson, Overhills transfer Henry Happel and Drew Matthews did the catching Friday.

Midway collected six hits with Cameron Barefoot, Carson Calcutt, Dajohn Butler and Cameron Calcutt among the leaders at the plate.

The Raiders scrimmage at Cape Fear on Tuesday with Cameron Barefoot, Austin Peterson and Reid Grady available to pitch.
