Midway baseball tops Wallace-Rose Hill, 6-4; girls soccer triumphs

Carson Calcutt had 12 strikeouts in six innings as Midway took a 6-4 East Central 2-A Conference varsity baseball win over visiting Wallace-Rose Hill on Friday night.

Brayden Coats had two hits and two RBIs for the Raiders (5-0, 2-0). Midway scored twice in the bottom of the first and led the rest of the way.

Calcutt allowed one hit and one earned run.

Eli Culbreth struck out all three batters he faced in the seventh.

Both clubs had defensive lapses as the Bulldogs were charged with five errors and the Raiders committed four.

Carson Calcutt, Cameron Barefoot, Cameron Calcutt, Sawyer Sutton and Reid Grady had hits for the Raiders, who continue league play at Clinton on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Girls games

Midway took a 7-2 win over visiting Wallace-Rose Hill in girls soccer.

Catawba signee Kasey McLamb had three goals for Midway, including two on penalty kicks, as the Raiders improved to 4-2 overall and 1-1 in the league.

Rachel Edwards had two goal. Addison Apperson had a goal and an assist. Carli Carroll had a goal. Quinn Schmidlin had an assist.

Defensively, Midway allowed only four shots on goal.

The visiting Bulldogs took an 11-8 softball win.
