Midway took an 8-4 varsity baseball win over visiting Clinton on Wednesday night to secure at least a share of the East Central 2-A Conference varsity baseball championship.
The Raiders improved to 15-5 overall and 9-2 in league play. Spring Creek has already finished its conference schedule with a 9-3 record.
Midway can clinch the league title with a win at Goldsboro in tonight’s 6 p.m. matchup. A loss would leave the Raiders tied for the top spot with the Gators.
Freshman Sawyer Sutton pitched five and two-thirds innings for Midway. He allowed six hits and four runs (one earned) with four walks and four strikeouts. Sophomore Cal Tyndall went one and one-third innings with no hits, no walks and one strikeout.
Austin Peterson was 1-for-2 with a sacrifice fly and two RBIs. Jaron Register was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and an RBI. Carson Calcutt, Colby Pope and Chandler Williford also had hits for the Raiders.
