Midway was the runner-up in the NCHSAA 2-A softball tournament for the second straight season after a 3-2 loss to Southwestern Randolph at UNC Greensboro on Saturday.
The Raiders (21-5) gave no evidence of giving up after a 13-0 loss in five innings to the Cougars (23-7) on Friday night.
Jordyn Christopher’s sacrifice bunt in the fourth gave Midway a 1-0 lead as Eva McLamb scored.
Hits by Peyton Herring, Sarah Autry and Tamia Gwynn provided a 2-1 lead for Midway in the sixth.
Two runs for the Western region champions in the seventh ended the game.
Freshman Kyleigh Stonerock pitched six and two-thirds innings for Midway with one walk and seven strikeouts.
