Midway girls advance

Leah Williams scored 25 points and Alyssa Wrench added 15 as Midway took a 59-37 win over visiting North Johnston in the first round of the NCHSAA 2-A girls basketball playoffs on Tuesday night.

The Lady Raiders (23-2), the No. 12 seed in the East, advance to meet fifth-seeded East Duplin (26-1) in a matchup to be hosted by the Lady Eagles on Thursday night.

J.J. Sankey had seven points for Midway against North Johnston. Logan Baggett scored six points. Madeline Royal tallied four points and Hannah Lucas added two points.

The Lady Raiders made 20 of 35 field goal attempts, 57 percent. Wrench and Royal each had eight rebounds.

Williams had five rebounds, six assists and three steals.
