Midway coach Allen McLamb said he would take an ‘ugly win’ after advancing against Spring Creek on Tuesday night, but that the Lady Raiders would need to play better tonight. Midway’s varsity girls basketball team defeated Spring Creek 54-43 on Tuesday night in the quarterfinals of the East Central 2-A Conference Tournament at East Duplin.

Leah Williams led the second-seeded Lady Raiders with 20 points, J.J. Sankey scored 18 and Jenna Pope added six.

Alyssa Wrench contributed four points, six rebounds, three steals, three assists and three blocked shots.

“We played bad,” said Lady Raiders coach Allen McLamb. “We’ve got time to fix it. We talked about it and we know what we have to do.”

The Midway girls play Goldsboro on tonight (Thursday) at 7 p.m. in the semifinals.

The Lady Raiders shared the regular-season league championship with East Duplin, which won a draw for top seeding in the conference tournament.
