After rival Triton won the opening set, visiting Midway’s varsity volleyball team rallied to take a 3-1 nonconference win at Triton on Wednesday. Individual set scores were 23-25, 25-16, 25-21 and 25-21.
“That first set, we made so many mental errors,” said Midway coach Susan Clark. “Hitting in the net. Hitting out of bounds. Lack of communication. The whole gamut. They finally got it together and got their minds in it and we came around and started playing. We were swinging in the net or swinging out of bounds and we just had to get our groove back.”
Morgan Hall had eight kills and four blocks, Morgan Naylor had 21 assists and three aces on 12 service points, Alyssa Hargrove had four blocks, Blair Baggett had six aces on 15 service points and McKenzie Williams had 21 digs and three aces on 16 service points to lead the Raiders (1-1).
Rylie Williams had five kills, one assist, three blocks, 16 digs and one ace on three service points. Blair Baggett had four kills and seven digs. Hargrove had four kills, and two digs and served one ace. Leah Brannon had three kills, one block and two digs. Morgan Williams had two kills, one assist, 13 digs and three aces on four service points. Naylor had one kill and six digs. Isabella Barefoot had one kill and held serve for one point. Hall had two assists and one dig and held serve for five points. McKenzie Williams had one assist. Mallory Baggett had one dig.
Clark said Midway’s defense was a major factor in the win.
“Triton hit really well,” Clark said. “Their hits down the line were really hard to defend. But McKenzie’s really quick and she can get over their and make a great pass back and then Morgan (Naylor) can pretty much get to it and set it on a dime.”
Carleigh Hemby had 12 kills, Reagan Bradham had 17 assists and 25 digs, Ava Blackman had 18 digs and Makayla Norris had 14 digs and three aces on 13 service points to lead the Hawks (0-2).
Grace Wilson had eight kills and one dig. Chyna Massey had one kill, one assist, one block and four digs. Olivia Godwin had one kill, four digs and two aces on six service points. Norris had one assist. Korra Altman had two blocks, five digs and three aces on nine service points. Stephanie Davis had 12 digs and held serve for two points. Emma Stanley had six digs and served one ace. Hemby had two digs and one ace on two service points. Bradham and Blackman each had two aces on five service points.

With the second set tied 13-13, a Hargrove kill, assisted by Naylor, started the Raiders on a 12-3 run, capped by a Morgan Williams kill, assisted by Naylor, to end the set and tie the match 1-1.
