Midway varsity teams split in East Central 2-A openers

The Midway varsity girls basketball team jumped out to a 21-1 lead in the first quarter on the way to a 59-13 win over visiting Spring Creek in the East Central 2-A Conference opener for the Lady Raiders.

The Midway girls got 12 points from J.J. Sankey in improving to 11-0 overall. Alyssa Wrench and Jenna Pope scored 11 points each. Pope had six rebounds.

Riley Williams had five points for Midway. Scoring four each were Kris McKoy, Sydney Williams and Erin Barefoot. Gabbi Salas-Davis had three points in the win, Alison Belfowers tallied two and Alexis Jackson added one point.

McKoy had five steals.

The Midway boys fell to 4-7 with a 69-61 loss.

The Raiders continue league play at Clinton on Friday, Jan. 4.
