Midway walks off, moves to 12-0

Midway scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning on Thursday night for an 8-7 East Central 2-A Conference varsity baseball win over visiting East Duplin.

Cal Tyndall drove in the winning run.

The Raiders improved to 12-0 overall and 6-0 in the league going into a home conference game with Spring Creek on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

The Raiders collected 12 hits with Carson Calcutt going 3-for-5 with an RBI. Cameron Barefoot had two hits with an RBI. Eli Culbreth went 2-for-2. Getting a hit and two RBIs apiece were Brayden Coats, Tyndall and Drew Matthews.

Jaron Register and Cameron Calcutt each had hits.

Campbell signee Chandler Williford had nine strikeouts in five and two-thirds innings. Tyndall went one and two-thirds, striking out two and getting the win.

East Duplin had 11 hits, taking leads of 3-0 and 7-5.

In softball, Midway avenged its only league loss by a 5-3 margin over the Panthers as Alyssa Wrench had two hits and three RBIs for the Raiders. Jega Depuyan had two hits. J.J. Sankey had a hit, an RBI and stole two bases.

Miranda Holmes struck out eight for Midway (7-3, 5-1).
