Baseball players from Harnett Central, Midway and Triton will be taking part in Pro Day at Guilford College today in conjunction with the State Games this week in Greensboro. The Region 4 team, coached by David Reece of Triton, includes Brayden Bates, Chase Sewell and Brady Wilson from the Hawks as well as Brayden Sears and Ryan Wester of Central. Midway coach Justin Carroll is an assistant for the Region 2 team which includes Carson Tew, Wesley Tew and Tanner Willians of the Raiders. Approximately 100 to 120 college and pro scouts are expected as players take batting practice, show their fielding skills and run 60-yard dashes. Region 4 works out at 1:40 p.m. today and Region 2 is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. … After a weather delay, J.J. Spaun won the U.S. Open at Oakmont by two shots at 1-under par with birdies on the last two holes including a 64-foot putt on No. 18. … Coastal Carolina won its second game in the College World Series, 6-2, over Oregon State on Sunday night. Arizona was eliminated with an 8-3 loss to Louisville. In the CWS today, Arkansas faces Murray State in an elimination game (ESPN, 2 p.m.) and UCLA meets LSU in the winners bracket (ESPN, 7 p.m.). … Cedric Mullins (Campbell) had a hit and scored a run for host Baltimore on Sunday in an 11-2 win over the Los Angeles Angels. Zach Neto (Campbell) doubled and scored for the Angels. … Indiana visits Oklahoma City in the NBA finals tonight with the series tied, 2-2 (ABC,8:30 p.m.). … Shane van Gisbergen won the NASCAR Cup race in Mexico City. … Georgia won the NCAA women’s track and field team championship in Eugene, Oregon.
