Cape Fear Christian Academy won its first middle school baseball game in the Mid-Carolina Conference of the 2024 season, 8-7, at Crossroads Christian in Henderson on Friday.
The Eagles rallied from a 4-1 deficit after an inning of play. Tyson Stephens had singled and scored for CFCA in the top of the first.
Six runs on four hits turned the game in the Eagles’ favor in the top of the second.
Trystan Marlow started on the mound for CFCA and Stephens closed the game. Marlow had four strikeouts in three innings.
Cooper Davis, Landon Wangelin and Carter Glass combined for four hits, three runs and three RBIs.
Stephens walked and scored the Eagles’ last run in the third for an 8-4 lead.
Braxton Young drew a pair of walks for CFCA. Stephens and Glass had two hits each. Stephens had two RBIs.
The Eagles had 10 stolen bases.
Nonconference contest vs. St. John Paul II
CFCA finished strong for an 8-3 win over St. John Paul II of Southern Pines on Monday.
CFCA had several defensive gems that included a double play from left field, a runner thrown out at first from right field and a tag out at second on a steal attempt. Braxton Young threw out two runners stealing.

Wangelin started on the mound and went three innings with six strikeouts. Parker McLamb came on in relief and Gunner Dorman closed.
Getting hits for the hosts were Davis, Marlow, Stephens, Glass, James Hood, and Dorman.
CFCA had 12 hits.
