UNC basketball standout Armando Bacot didn’t head for Disney World after the national championship game, but he has spent some time in the Dominican Republic.

W.A. Myatt, who played four sports at Triton before graduating in 2011, spotted the UNC standout in the resort area where Myatt and wife, Calley, were staying.

“I told him we had a connection with Coach (Jeff) Lebo,” Myatt said. “I worked for Coach Lebo in the basketball office at East Carolina and Coach Lebo is on the staff at North Carolina now.”

Myatt is athletic director at Shallotte Middle School and coaches several sports, including boys basketball.

Bacot was the first player to get double-doubles in points and rebounds in six straight NCAA Tournament games. He has announced he will return for UNC next season.

Bacot turned his right ankle late in the national final against Kansas.

“He wasn’t limping,” Myatt said.
