Junior guard Zeke Brock scored 36 points for Cape Fear Christian Academy’s varsity boys basketball team on Thursday as the Eagles were topped, 69-66, by Nash Central in the John Jacobs Christmas Classic at Cleveland High School.

Brock, who also had six assists, earned all-tournament honors for CFCA (5-10), which jumped out to a 10-0 lead.

“They called a timeout and got a 14-0 run on us,” said Eagles coach Dwain Ellis. “We were down (36-24) at the half.

“We came out in a press and closed the lead to three. We couldn’t get over the hump, because we don’t rebound well. That’s what cost us the game. We were minus-20 rebounding.”

Eighth-grade guard Brandon Surles had 16 points, a team-high six rebounds, three assists and two steals for the Eagles before fouling out.

Freshman guard Caden Scarborough contributed seven points, five rebounds and four assists. Wyatt Medlin scored five before exiting on fouls. Cole Godwin had four rebounds and Lathan Wilborn controlled three.

The Eagles return to action on January 6 at South Wake.
