The North Carolina High School Athletic Association released its playoff brackets Saturday. Six area teams advanced to postseason play.
First-round games are scheduled for Tuesday. The South Johnston and Harnett Central boys each will be playing at home.
South (23-3), the No. 11 seed in the Eastern bracket, is coming off a 61-57 win at East Wake on Friday night for the Greater Neuse 3-A Conference tournament championship and will host 22nd-seeded Chapel Hill (15-10) at 7 p.m.
Central (13-11) received the No. 15 seed and will host No. 18 Dudley (15-11).
Overhills (16-10) is the No. 24 seed in the 4-A East and travels to No. 9 Knightdale (20-5), the program that put the Jaguars out of the playoffs last season.
All of the area girls teams face challenges on the road.
The Overhills girls (12-8), seeded 23rd, travel to No. 10 Jordan (21-3).
No. 17 Harnett Central (18-6) visits No. 16 Rocky Mount (18-7).
Midway’s girls (22-5) are seeded No. 21 and will play at No. 12 Clinton (20-6) at 7 p.m. The Lady Raiders topped the Dark Horses 63-61 on Thursday at James Kenan in the semifinals of the East Central 2-A Conference tournament as J.J. Sankey scored 24 points.
Admission is $6 for the playoff matchups.
