NCHSAA releases Wells Fargo Cup standings for conferences

The North Carolina High School Athletic Association has released conference standings for the Wells Fargo Cup competition, which involves all sports.

Hobbton is contending in the Carolina 1-A Conference. The Wildcats are tied for second, just one point behind Lakewood.

Here is the summary for each conference that includes an area school:

Carolina 1-A
Lakewood is the frontrunner after the winter sports season thanks to second-place finishes in girls basketball and boys winter track. There is a tie for second place between Hobbton and Rosewood. With Hobbton securing championships in boys and girls track while Rosewood won a boys basketball championship.
Conference Standings
Lakewood 44, Hobbton 43, Rosewood 43, Princeton 39, Neuse Charter 32, North Duplin 27, Union 12.

East Central 2-A
Jumping ahead of the competition, East Duplin is in first place with a girls basketball championship and second-place finishes in boys and girls winter track. In second place is Clinton with a boys basketball championship. Midway is in third place thanks to championships in boys and girls winter track.
Conference Standings
East Duplin 59, Clinton 44.5, Midway 43, Wallace Rose-Hill 32.5, Goldsboro 30.5, James Kenan 27, Spring Creek 22.5.

Greater Neuse 3-A
In first place is Clayton after the winter sports season thanks to championships in boys basketball, girls swimming and cheerleading. In second place is Cleveland with a wrestling championship and championships in boys and girls winter track. West Johnston is in third place with a gymnastics championship.
Conference Standings
Clayton 164.5, Cleveland 159, West Johnston 140.5, South Johnston 104.5, East Wake 104, Smithfield-Selma 95.5.

Tri-County Six 3-A
Sweeping the swimming championships along with a shared first-place finish in girls basketball, Union Pines is in first place. In second place is Harnett Central with a cheerleading championship and a share of first in girls basketball. Lee County is in third place with second-place finishes in boys basketball and cheerleading.
Conference Standings
Union Pines 63, Harnett Central 52.5, Lee County 52, Triton 36.5, Western Harnett 35.5, Southern Lee 26.5.

Patriot Athletic 4-A/3-A
Terry Sanford is in first place after the winter sports season thanks to championships in boys swimming and boys basketball along with second-place finishes in girls basketball and girls swimming. Cape Fear is in second place with championships in wrestling and girls swimming. Pine Forest is in third place with a second-place finish in boys swimming and a third-place finish in wrestling.
Conference Standings
Terry Sanford 89, Cape Fear 88.5, Pine Forest 74.5, Gray’s Creek 68, South View 67, Overhills 60, E.E. Smith 36.5, Westover 28, Douglas Byrd 16.5.
