Nick Avery is going from Harnett Central to Central Carolina.

After averaging 9.0 points and 7.2 rebounds for the Trojans in 2022-23 — both team highs — Avery has signed to continue his playing career on the next level with the nearby junior college program, which is coached by Brad McDougald.

The 6-feet, 4-inch Avery, who weighs 200 pounds, 1.6 assists and 1.2 rebounds.

“Nick has really worked hard to get this opportunity,” said Harnett Central coach Will Gage. “He really works in the offseason and he will continue to work hard to make the most of his future.”

Avery has been motivated by a desire to play on the college level.

“I dreamed of it as a kid and now I get my chance,” Avery said. “I’m going to take advantage of it and not take it for granted.”

Avery plans to study physical education in preparation for coaching.
